Osler Foundation: Report Back to the Community 2019-20
We set out to prepare our 2019-20 Report Back to the Community several months ago with a theme of 'The Now and the Next'. We had much to recap for you:
In June we celebrated the grand opening of a brand new 250,000 square foot expansion at Etobicoke General Hospital and we received an incredible $1.5 million gift from the Osler Volunteer Association to help build and equip this new space; later in the year, Orlando Corporation would step forward with an additional $1.5 million to close the funding gap on this $25 million project.
In the early days of 2020 we proudly became one of Ontario’s first community hospitals to offer innovative rTMS treatment for mental illness when a generous donation from Bell Let’s Talk funded the purchase of a life-changing rTMS suite for Brampton Civic Hospital; The impact of this gift was doubled when a group of Osler psychiatrists stepped up to fund a second machine.
We hosted our annual Brampton and Etobicoke Osler Invitational golf tournaments and rocked the Rose Theatre with former Eagle’s guitarist Don Felder for the 8th annual Gala Benefit Concert. Throughout the year we gratefully accepted generous gifts in amounts both large and small in support of Osler’s three hospitals.
All that to say, we had much to celebrate in the 'now' and were looking forward to working with our community of donors in 2020 to ensure Osler hospitals could continue delivering exceptional health care close to home. We had no idea that the 'next' would bring us to where we are today, in the midst of a global pandemic.
In March we launched our Health Care Heroes campaign to support Osler’s front line workers in the fight against COVID-19. We are proud to say that community response has been incredible so far. As we have had to pivot quickly in response to the pandemic, our full Report Back to the Community will be released later this year. In the meantime, we invite you to read about some of the incredible work being done across Osler hospitals at oslerfoundation.org, and ask that you consider making a donation to help purchase the equipment needed to provide health care close to home.
We thank you for your ongoing support over the past year and today, as we face the biggest challenge of our lives. Together, we will emerge stronger. We look forward to 'the next' with all of you by our side.
